A routine to support your Skin Barrier

The secret to good skin? A healthy skin barrier. This Barrier Support Routine has all you need to heal, restore and maintain the skin barrier for strong, resilient skin.

You’ve read about the tell-tale signs of a compromised skin barrier. Perhaps you’ve done too much too soon, or perhaps the change in seasons is to blame for a compromised skin barrier. What should you do to heal your skin? There are a few things you need to consider in order to restore your skin:

Re-evaluate your routine

Before you do anything, stop all high strength, active products. This means pressing pause on your retinol, acids, enzymes, peptides and vitamin c. You want to get back-to-basics of supporting your skin barrier, and not overloading your skin with potent ingredients. You can return to these again later, once the skin has recovered, we promise!

A routine for Skin Barrier Support

La Clinica has worked hard to formulate products that are specifically designed to repair, restore and maintain your skin barrier. A lot of research went into our Barrier Support range to ensure that every ingredient is going to help your skin heal, restore moisture levels and maintain its resilience.

Ingredients for skin barrier support:

  • Hyaluronic Acid
  • Ceramides
  • Niacinamide
  • Soothing ingredients
  • Plant Oils
  • Essential Fatty Acids

Step 1: Cleanse

Anti Ageing CleanserSensitive Skin Cleanser

Just because your skin is going through a crisis, it doesn’t mean you can skip on washing your face! Build up, debris and daily grime and pollution still need to come off and it is more important than ever to remove this debris so it doesn’t cause further problems. Start with a gentle cleanser to remove any SPF or makeup. The Gentle Milk Facial Cleanser or the Sensitive Skin Cleanser are both excellent choices for irritated skin as they won’t strip the skin. Simply lightly massage into damp skin for 60 seconds before gently removing.

Step 2: The Hydrating and Healing Serum

Essentials Hydrating and Healing Serum

This silky-smooth serum is your holy grail in skin barrier resilience. Don’t just take our word for it - let our customer reviews convince you. Specially designed to support the skin barrier by hydrating, soothing, reducing inflammation and supporting the healing process. Apply 1 or 2 pumps to cleansed skin.

6 reasons why our Hydrating and Healing Serum is so special and how it will support your skin

  1. Eight carefully chosen Hyaluronic Acids - see more about these below!
  2. A specific Ceramide that enables us to use effective concentration in a water-based serum format to fortify the skin barrier and improve long term moisture levels
  3. Niacinamide to help strengthen and nourish
  4. Oat Beta Glucan, Allantoin and Centella Extract work to soothe the skin and support wound healing
  5. A peptide to reduce skin sensitisation
  6. Centella to slow the breakdown of HA

Eight Hyaluronic Acids and their function in the Hydrating and Healing Serum

  • Zinc Hyaluronate - to promote healing.
  • HyaloRepair - a patented HA to target skin barrier function recovery, increase water content of the skin barrier, and reduce TEWL.
  • Hyaloveil - has the opposite charge of the skin’s surface and therefore adheres to the skin via ionic bond. It also demonstrates 9 times more hydration compared to common HA, even after washing.
  • Hyal-Oligo - penetrates beyond the skin barrier to provide long lasting moisture retention.
  • HA Booster - penetrates the epidermis delivering hydration to deeper levels and signalling fibroblast (elastin) and collagen production, increasing the skin’s firmness.

Step 3: The Re-Activation Nourishing Facial Oil

Essentials Nourishing Facial Oil

Dry and dehydrated skin? The Re-Activation Nourishing Facial Oil isn’t just a facial oil, it contains a unique dehydrated hyaluronic acid suspended in a fatty acid. When applied to the skin it absorbs moisture that would otherwise be escaping from deeper layers in the skin and retains it in place, creating a more hydrated, resilient, robust skin barrier.

In other words, it regulates the amount of moisture escaping, providing better hydration and creating plump and nourished skin. This process also smoothes out wrinkles. As this oil is lightweight, apply after a serum.

6 reasons why Re-activation Nourishing Facial Oil is so special and how it will support your skin

  1. A unique hyaluronic acid attends to both dry and dehydrated skin
  2. Plumps the skin
  3. Smooths out appearance of wrinkles
  4. Contains powerhouse emollients, Squalane, Jojoba oil, Chia seed oil, Argan oil and Rosehip oil for super soft, moisturised skin
  5. Anti inflammatory and soothing
  6. Supports the skin barrier and wound healing

Step 4: The Deep Hydration Moisture Cream

Essentials Deep Hydration Moisture Cream

Containing no fragrances or essential oils, this multifaceted moisture cream has been formulated for hydration, skin-nourishment and skin barrier fortification as the primary focus. Apply after serums and oils but before any SPF. Reapply throughout the day as needed.

6 reasons why our Deep Hydration Moisture Cream is so special and how it will support your skin

  1. Ceramides & Niacinamide simulate and stimulate epidermal lipids
  2. Triple moisturising system of  humectants, emollients and occlusives
  3. Preps your skin prior to running high actives and continues to support during and after
  4. Gives your skin luminosity and glow.
  5. Suitable for stressed skin or compromised skin barrier.
  6. Cholesterol and Oils rich in essential fatty acids, Oat Beta Glucan and Allantoin

Step 5: be patient!

The skin needs time to restore itself and it isn’t an overnight fix. Keep up the routine of hydration and care. Don’t re-introduce actives until the skin is very much recovered or you’ll risk starting back at square one. Also, don’t be hard on yourself, bad skin days happen to everyone! If you don’t see improvements in a few weeks - see a dermatologist for advice.
